What are rubber bellows?
Rubber bellows are flexible components designed to reduce noise and absorb movements that are caused from plant room equipment. For example, pumps, chillers and other high functioning machinery often cause movements to pipework systems through vibrations. Rubber bellows work to not only absorb this movement and protect the pipework, but also significantly reduce disruptive noise. As a result, these rubber bellows are an essential part of any pipework that include a pumping system.
Rubber bellows cannot be used as an expansion joint to cater for thermal expansion. If this product is installed in your systems, they are at high risk of costly damages to your pipework systems, such as cracks and misalignments.
All of our EMFLEX rubber flexible connectors are composed of a synthetic rubber membrane reinforced with a nylon cord. Our EMFLEX EE EPDM Flexible Connectors are a rubber bellow that is suitable for your standard LTHW systems, whereas our EMFLEX WRAS Approved Flexible Connectors are suitable for your HWS systems.
Our EMFLEX bellows feature flanged ends that cater to Flange Table ‘E’, ‘F’ and ‘H’, ASA, PN6, PN10, PN16 and PN25. We manufacture from nominal sizes of 15mm to 300mm. Explore our range of data sheets for more product specific information.
What is the lifespan of a rubber bellow?
The average lifespan for a rubber bellow is usually between 5 and 10 years. However, a variety of factors can decrease the durability of a rubber bellow, which is why a precise guarantee is difficult to predict. For example, if the system is subjected to different pressures or temperatures than expected, then their life span will be significantly reduced. As a general rule, the higher the temperature, the shorter life span the bellow will have.
To ensure the longevity of your rubber bellows , we recommended that regular inspections are carried out to ensure that there are no signs of deterioration. This could include hairline cracks, exterior surface cracking or the rubber becoming hard and brittle. Our experts are here to help with any advice or guidance on how to ensure the durability of your rubber bellows, and will be able to assist on whether your bellows are nearing the end of their service life.
Our EMFLEX Rubber Bellows come equipped with the date of manufacture, nominal diameter, manufacturer and type permanently moulded into the membrane to ensure that each product is fully traceable. Our team will also provide you with more product information, such as data sheets, and installation advice upon purchase.
